Kent cigarettes are another masterpiece of the world famous tobacco company, British American Tobacco Company which has the privilege to be the second largest tobacco company of the world. The company is situated in London and has a number of internationally acclaimed cigarette brands under its name like Lucky Strike, Pall Mall, Vogue, Viceroy, Benson & Hedges, John Player, Dunhill and of course Kent, among others. This particular cigarette brand got its name from Mr. Herbert Kent who was a former executive at the Lorillard Tobacco Company and was named after his name to oblige him and was launched in market in 1952.

The aspect which make Kent cigarettes different from others is its filter which is a specially made charcoal filter containing the activated carbon. It was famous because this new kind of filter was the first to reduce the intake of nicotine and tar from the cigarette. It was in 1954 that a catchy advertisement campaign was started for Kent Cigarettes for its new kind of filter and the slogan said, “Kent takes out more nicotine and tars than any other leading cigarette- the difference in protection is priceless”. The campaign proved very effective and the sale of this brand made a shoot towards the top.

The history of making this new kind of filter was that in 1952, after reading a series of articles with the name “cancer by the carton”, the cigarette consumers became quite terrified with smoking and made the smokers to search for a safer filter. It was shortly after the publishing of this article that the company came up with Micronite filter. The deadly blue asbestos filter was replaced with charcoal filter, which is a form of carbonated carbon, and the cigarette became even safer.

Kent cigarette was a co-sponsor of a very famous show, the Dick Van Dyke Show and several of the co-stars of this show appeared in the advertisements of this cigarette. Kent has remained a favorite brand of many famous people and celebrities who likes its rich taste as well as marvelous texture.
